Reducing Hot Water Energy Demand in Community Sports Facilities

The Gilden Park Sports Pavilion demonstrates how shower waste water heat recovery can significantly reduce domestic hot water energy demand in high-use sports facilities.

Designed for communal changing rooms and multi-shower environments, the system recovers heat from shower wastewater and reuses it to preheat incoming cold water.

The result is lower energy consumption, reduced operating costs and improved building efficiency.

System Design

Twelve Recoup Drain+ Duo HE units were installed beneath the communal shower areas.

The shower blocks are arranged in banks, allowing wastewater from multiple showers to be collected efficiently.

Heat recovered from the wastewater is transferred to the incoming cold water supply, reducing the energy required for domestic hot water production.

The entire system operates passively, requiring no electrical input or user interaction.

Project Benefits

The installation provides long-term benefits for both operators and users:

  • Up to 55% reduction in domestic hot water energy demand
  • Lower operating costs
  • Reduced carbon emissions
  • Reduced demand on hot water systems
  • Passive technology with no electricity or moving parts
  • Virtually maintenance-free operation

Built for High-Use Sports Facilities

Communal changing rooms often experience short periods of intensive shower use after matches, training sessions and events.

Recoup Drain+ Duo HE is specifically designed for these high-demand environments, providing efficient heat recovery from multiple showers while requiring minimal maintenance.
