Both products are horizontal waste water heat recovery systems. The X-tray is a product that is a permanently installed, a building-integrated solution. The Flatmate is a freestanding plug&play solution designed to fit directly on the bathroom floor and connect to the shower mixer.
The Flatmate is designed for level-access shower floors. It will not fit in an existing shower tray. The shower valve has to be exposed, not concealed.
Absolutely! With the Flatmate, you save a lot of energy and therefore reduce CO₂ emissions. An independent environmental study, commissioned by the Dutch government’s energy and sustainability agency, assessed the full environmental impact of the Flatmate — including raw materials, production, transport, installation, use, and recycling. The results show that even in single-person households, the Flatmate has a positive environmental effect. In multi-person households, where showers are more frequent, the Flatmate provides a significant environmental benefit.
The Flatmate is easy to install, a real DIY product. The package comes with all connection material and a clear installation manual. No special tools are required.
The Flatmate is a wastewater heat recovery system, it recovers the heat and transfers it back to the cold domestic water inlet of the shower mixer.
Apart from regular cleaning, the Flatmate requires no extra maintenance.
The top of the Flatmate can be cleaned just like any standard shower tray. Since water also flows through the inside, it should be cleaned internally from time to time as well. Using a hand shower and a sponge, you can easily clean the inside. The Flatmate can be easlily lifted, making cleaning underneath it very easy. Please see the manual > support.
The Flatmate operates 100% passively, no external power is needed.
