Vienna Renovation Project Showcases Shower Waste Water Heat Recovery in Climate-Friendly Housing

The renovation of the historic apartment building at Fernkorngasse 41 in Vienna-Favoriten has turned a traditional Gründerzeit building into a showcase for climate-resilient housing. As part of the refurbishment, Recoup shower wastewater heat recovery (WWHR) systems were installed – a first for Austria. Combined with heat pumps, geothermal energy and photovoltaics, the project has reduced the building’s heating demand by around 78%, setting a new benchmark for sustainable renovation.
