The Flatmate+ is suitable for level-access showers with a drain and an exposed shower mixer connection. It is not designed for installation inside an existing shower tray.
Absolutely! With the Flatmate, you save a lot of energy and therefore reduce CO₂ emissions. An independent environmental study, commissioned by the Dutch government’s energy and sustainability agency, assessed the full environmental impact of the Flatmate — including raw materials, production, transport, installation, use, and recycling. The results show that even in single-person households, the Flatmate has a positive environmental effect. In multi-person households, where more showers are taken, the Flatmate provides a significant environmental benefit.
Installation is straightforward for a qualified plumber or installer familiar with shower and water connections.
No. The system only recovers heat from shower wastewater. The wastewater itself continues through the normal drainage system.
The heat exchanger has no moving parts and requires very little maintenance. Normal cleaning of the shower surface and drain should be carried out as part of standard bathroom maintenance.
The top of the Flatmate can be cleaned just like any standard shower tray. Since water also flows through the inside, it should be cleaned internally from time to time as well. Using a hand shower and a sponge, you can easily clean the inside. The Flatmate can be easlily lifted, making cleaning underneath it very easy. Please see the manual > support.
No. The system operates passively without electricity, controls or moving parts.
The Flatmate+ is designed primarily for direct connection to the shower mixer, preheating the cold water supply before it reaches the shower.
