What is the difference between a vertical and a horizontal heat exchanger?
The choice mainly depends on your bathroom layout and available space. For newly build building a vertical heat exchanger can be the best solution, for renovation project the horizontal heat exchanger can be the best solution.
Can the X-tray be installed in any building?
Yes, the X-tray can be installed in almost any type of building, as long as there is a minimum space of 90 x 90 cm available.
Is the X-tray truly sustainable?
Absolutely. With the X-tray, you save a lot of energy and therefore reduce CO₂ emissions. An independent environmental study, commissioned by the Dutch government’s energy and sustainability agency, assessed the full environmental impact of the X-tray — including raw materials, production, transport, installation, use, and recycling. The results show that even in single-person households, the X-tray has a positive environmental effect. In multi-person households, where more showers are taken, the X-tray provides a significant environmental benefit.
Do I need a plumber or installer for the X-tray?

Does the X-tray recycle wastewater?
No, only the heat from the wastewater is recovered, not the water itself.
Do I need to maintain the X-tray?
Apart from regular cleaning, the X-tray requires no extra maintenance.
How do I clean the X-tray?
The top of the X-tray can be cleaned just like any standard shower tray. Since water also flows through the inside, it should be cleaned internally from time to time as well. Using a hand shower and a sponge, you can easily clean the inside. The drain is part of the X-tray and is easy to access.
Can the X-tray get clogged?
The heat exchanger of the X-tray cannot get clogged. The X-tray includes a drain with a water seal, which—like any other shower drain—can become blocked if it’s not cleaned regularly. Since the drain is easy to access, it can be cleaned quickly, and the X-tray will be ready for use again.
Do I need electricity for the X-tray?
No, the X-tray doesn’t require electricity. It works using the natural flow of water pressure and gravity.
Can I connect the X-tray to both the water heater and the shower mixer?
Yes, the X-tray model can be connected in three different ways:
A. To both the water heater and the shower mixer (for maximum efficiency)
B. To the shower mixer only
C. To the water heater only
