How it works

When you shower, valuable energy disappears down the drain. A Recoup waste water heat recovery system captures that heat from the used water and transfers it to the incoming cold domestic water. This  reduces the hotwater demand and reduces the load on the water heater, saving both energy and costs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Vertical or horizontal heat exchanger?

The choice mainly depends on your bathroom layout and available space. For new build projects, a vertical heat exchanger is the preferred solution. When renovating, depending on the level of renovation, a vertical shower WWHR could be possible to implement. This depends on whether or not the plumbing lay-out can be arranged to accomodate the vertical system. In all other cases, horizontal heat exchangers can be fitted.

Yes, the X-tray can be installed in virtually any bathroom. Depending on the situation, the X-Tray can be fully integrated into the bathroom floor (Repeat), it can be half-integrated, leaving a 25mm threshold or install it as a traditional shower tray.

Absolutely. With the X-tray, you save a lot of energy and therefore reduce CO₂ emissions. An independent environmental study, commissioned by the Dutch government’s energy and sustainability agency, assessed the full environmental impact of the X-tray — including raw materials, production, transport, installation, use, and recycling. The results show that even in single-person households, the X-tray has a net positive environmental effect. In multi-person households, in which showers are more frequent, the X-tray provides a significant environmental benefit.

Contact your local plumber or installer for ordering and installing the X-tray. Proper installation ensures maximum efficiency and reliability.

No, only the heat from the wastewater is recovered, not the water itself.

Besides regular cleaning, the X-tray requires no additional maintenance.

The X-Tray meets all European hygene and safety standards.

Just as a bathroom or shower tray is normally cleaned. For the inside of the X-Tray, we recommend to rinse once a week with the handshower.

Just like any other shower tray or drain, there is always a chance of clogging as a result from hair, soap, dirt etc. The X-Tray has a hairfilter and a syphon that need to be cleaned regularly.

The X-Tray is fully passive, has no moving parts and needs no power.

Yes, the X-tray model can be connected in three different ways:

A. To both the water heater and the shower mixer (for maximum efficiency)*

B. To the shower mixer only

C. To the water heater only*

It might be challenging to connect the X-Tray to the water heater. The X-Tray is located in the bathroom, from there, an extra tube would need to be installed leading to the water heater. For more information, please contact us.
